On December 25, 2018 Russian-Armenian University opened a Wolfram laboratory established jointly with Wolfram Research, Inc. The laboratory has been created on the basis of the research laboratory of mathematical modeling of quantum systems at Russian-Armenian University, located in the lecture room 249. This is the first university-based Wolfram laboratory in the world.
Minister of Education and Science of the Republic of Armenia Araik Harutyunyan, RAU Rector Professor Armen Darbinyan, Director of RAU Institute of Engineering and Physics Professor Hayk Sarkisyan, Head of RAU Department of General Physics and Quantum Nanostructures Associate Professor David Hayrapetyan, RAU Chief Academic Advisor Professor Eduard Ghazaryan, Wolfram Research Manager in Armenia Mikayel Egibyan as well as leading industry experts, RAU professors and students attended the event.
RA Minister of Education and Science Araik Harutyunyan highlighted the importance of such laboratories for higher education and science, “Such big companies as Wolfram Research seek cooperation with those institutions, which they consider strong partners; RAU in this sense is one of the best platforms. I want to congratulate the university’s executives with yet another accomplishment”.
RAU Rector Professor Armen Darbinyan welcomed the initiative, “This is a big honor for us and an accomplishment. We believe that the opening of Wolfram Laboratory will benefit Armenia, its science and research; the Wolfram methodology can be applied to solve some very interesting and relevant issues. The students actively engaged in research will have exceptional opportunities to work with Wolfram”.
Wolfram Research Manager in Armenia Mikayel Egibyan and Head of RAU Department of General Physics and Quantum Nanostructures Associate Professor David Hayrapetyan will co-manage the laboratory.
“The opening of this laboratory proves that when you believe, trust and help the young generation, they make brilliant things happen. Wolfram Laboratory was established due to the efforts of our younger colleagues David Hayrapetyan, Mikayel Egibyan and others. I wish them all the best in their careers!”, mentioned RAU Chief Academic Advisor Professor Eduard Ghazaryan.
Mikayel Egibyan confided that the idea to establish a Wolfram laboratory in Armenia went back to comapny founder Stephen Wolfram’s visit to Armenia, “Since then, we have considered a lot of institutions but decided to settle at Russian-Armenian University. We chose RAU Institute of Engineering and Physics, because Wolfram and Physics are tightly connected. However, Wolfram products aim to solve issues across various disciplines not only in STEM, but in social sciences, as well”.
Associate Professor David Hayrapetyan in his turn congratulated everybody and wished the students success in their research endeavors.
